I was doing some research on gels and bars the other night and ran across this website on making your own power gel. It appears the guy has done his homework and provides data on the ingredients as well as a recipe. For those willing to make a little mess in the kitchen, it's a far less expensive alternative.

I made the power gel and it works for me !!!!!!!!!

Used a GU pastic container

filled 75% of the container with Brown Rice Syrup
...25% with Agave Nectar and added 1 teaspoon of seasalt.. bought it all at a Native Sun store

Got caffine pills -- 2 cups of coffee strength--- at Walmart Pharmacy...

I would estimate cost is 1/3 or less than buying the packaged GU...Shot...whatever a person uses...

I take the caffine pill and then a squeeze of the goop.....only one pill at the start...then goo when I feel the need.....can hang with VeloBrew B now.....

It tastes bitter but it works and that is all I care about... it really does the job......gives me instant energy !!!!! Thanks much......

Great article Paul. It gets a bit technical if you read the entire thing, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

It even tells you where to find the reusable tubes!

Had a lot of trouble finding the brown rice syrup on my side of town but finally located a mom and pop health food store with it. Went to K-Mart and bought 3 x 3oz. reusable airline-qualified clear containers for 3 bucks. Can't wait to try this!

Tried it and can't say I realized any noticable difference. Also the stuff was so thick I had to take the cap off the flask to suck it out. Didn't care much for the taste either.
