Lake Asbury is a little bit country with its scenic views of the lake, and it is a little bit rock-n-roll as the hometown of Lynyrd Skynyrd. This weekend, however, it will be rocking and rolling all day with Florida State Championship Cyclocross racing at the nearby Ronnie Van Zant Park.  After the mellow 20-mile long social ride around the lake, there is an option to watch the Pro Race, starting at 3:45 pm.

THIS RIDE COUNTS FOR CLUB POINTS AND MILEAGE.

2021 Florida Cyclocross Championships.

On Saturday, January 10, 2021, Velobrew will be hosting the Florida Bicycle Racing Association 2021 Cyclocross Championships. Florida cross riders have been racing in the mud since October, to prepare for the championships.

Cyclocross is the most fun bike sport to watch with a vast tradition of spectator interaction and partying. Do bring your cowbells to cheer on the racers as they pass. No cowbell? Then heckle, cheer, jeer –whatever. Just make some noise.

Bring some hand-ups. These are often in the form of dollar bills. The goal is for the racer to maintain speed while grabbing the hand-up, making an exciting interaction between the racer and spectator.

The championship will feature a demanding course that tests the participants on trails, grass, steep hills, and obstacles – forcing the racers to dismount at several points to run while carrying their bikes.

The courses are short circuits so spectators can see a lot of action from one vantage point. Races are short and action-packed, without a dull moment.
