Headphones are prohibited by Florida State Law FS 316.304. Each bicycle must be equipped with at least one brake that meets the requirement of FS 316.2065(14). Do not ride more than two abreast, per FS 316.2065(6).

We will maintain a safe, fun, family oriented ride for everyone by using ride marshals, bicycle tags, bibs and well-published ride rules. These measures make the ride safe and enjoyable for everybody.

INSURANCE: Our insurance protects NFBC, all those who make the ride possible, and the registered riders. It does not offer any protection for those who “show up” for the ride without registering.

WEATHER: Sorry, but there is no rain date and we cannot offer refunds. The event will take place, rain or shine.

If for some reason you cannot attend the ride after registering, you can have someone pick up your T-shirt for you at the ride or you can pick it up at the next scheduled NFBC club meeting. Otherwise, it becomes the property of the club.

The North Florida Bicycle Club brings you a classic one-day bicycle event designed for all road cyclists, the 24th Annual Endless Summer Watermelon Rid.


 
Enjoy a wonderful bike ride on Amelia Island through Fort Clinch State Park and points along our coastal roads.  Come check out the League of American Bicyclists’ 2013 Bronze Level award winner, Fernandina Beach. We’ll provide pre-ride snacks, rest stops, a post-ride lunch, mechanical support, motorcycle escorts, and roving SAGs.  This is a great training ride for MS and CF!

This will be a monitored ride.

Wristbands and bib numbers will be issued and are required to be worn during this ride. This will ensure safety and that only registered riders receive pre-ride snacks, rest stops, marked routes, mechanical support, SAGs, motorcycle escorts, maps, and a post-ride lunch.

 

Five routes: 20/34/58/80/100 miles

 

Event Schedule:   

 

Day before the Ride – Saturday, September 7, 2013

1:30 to 4:00pm - Early pickup of ride packet including wristband ID, map and T-shirt and in-person registration, at Atlantic Recreation Center.

 

On Sunday, September 8, 2013

6:30am - Doors open for ride packet pick up including wristband ID, map and T-shirt and day-of-ride registration.

7:30am - 100 mile route departs

7:40am -   80 mile route departs

7.50am -   58 mile route departs

8:00am  -  20-34 mile routes departs

*Riders may be released in controlled groups at the start to prevent congestion at the Fort Clinch gate

 

11:00am to 4:00pm - Lunch served

4:00pm - All services end

In-person registrations (no technical T-shirt included):

1:30-4:00pm Saturday, September 7, and 6:30–7:50am Sunday, September 8, and the price will increase to $55.00 for both members and non-members.  Late and in-person registrants may purchase T-shirts at ride headquarters as a special order.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION NOTE, PLEASE READ!

For NFBC members with a family membership, the primary member and secondary member  (usually husband and wife) must log in and register separately. To register a minor child, contact the NFBC Membership Director, Jodi Hohlstein, at www.membership@nfbc.us. Jodi will send you a PDF application. Download it, fill out and sign it (one each per child), and mail it back with payment (check or money order) by snail mail to the address on the form. To ensure that it isn’t lost, email the Membership Director when you send it and she’ll be looking for it. 

WHY NOT JOIN THE NFBC WHEN YOU REGISTER!

Paying your dues before you register for the ride is an easy way to become a new member or to renew your membership. You will immediately save $15.00 on the pre-ride registration fee. Member benefits include a monthly online newsletter, a discount on accessories at participating bike shops include shipping case rentals, free classified ads in WheelSpeak and on our website, and e-mail notices about club rides and events. NFBC hosts four rides with food included each year.

 

Members wishing to register should go to www.NFBC.us and log in. Logging in will save you time during registration, and you will be presented the member fee ($30.00). If you fail to log in, you will be presented the non-member fee ($45.00), but will be given the opportunity to log in which will correct the fee before continuing. There is no transaction charge for members.  If you have forgotten your log-in password, click on “Forgot Log-in” and it will be emailed to you.

 

Non-members wishing to pay the member fee must first join and pay the membership fee (Individual - $20.00; Family - $25.00) by clicking on the www.NFBC.us "Join now!" and then registering as a member. There is no transaction fee to join.

 

Non-members wishing to register without joining may do so at the non-member fee ($45.00) and will have to also pay a credit card transaction fee.

 

As in the past, each registrant must register separately.

 

 

IN-PERSON REGISTRATION: Everyone, $55.00

You can register in person on the day before and on the morning of the ride. The fee for all in-person registrations is $55.00 (cash or check only, no credit cards accepted) for all riders (members and non-members alike), and does not include a T-shirt. T-shirts will be available for sale at the ride headquarters for $15.00 as special orders .

 

EVENT SUPPORT
The club will provide pre-ride snacks, rest stops, a post-ride lunch, mechanical support, motorcycle safety escorts, marked routes, maps, and SAGs. The post-ride lunch starts at 11:00am and ends at 4:00pm Ride/SAG support also ends at 4:00pm. If you are still riding at 4:00pm, you will be asked to SAG in, or you will be on your own with no support.

Accommodations.  There are numerous hotels on Amelia Island.  These three have agreed to offer blocks of rooms at reduced rates for ESWR riders on 7, 8, and 9 September.  Contact the hotel directly to make reservations.

CAN’T ATTEND?

If for some reason you cannot attend the ride after registering, you can pick up your T-shirt at the next scheduled Tuesday NFBC club meeting or have someone pick it up at the ride for you. Please understand, the T-shirt becomes the property of the club after 30 days.
