NFBC Charity Ride Team

CHARITY RIDE TEAM

Mission Statement

The Charity Ride Team was created to represent the North Florida Bicycle Club in local charity rides. It is hoped that the Charity Ride Team will promote camaraderie among the club’s members while "cycling for a cause", and also provide greater exposure of the North Florida Bicycle Club and its events such as the Tour de Forts and Endless Summer Watermelon Ride.

This team is appropriate for all levels of cyclists from beginner to experienced. There are mileage options available that are appropriate for any style of bicycle (touring, mountain, road, time trial, etc). Some of these rides also include options for running, triathlon, and family-friendly events.

Club Jerseys are required to earn club points and mileage. See Requirements and Rules for more details. The schedule of upcoming events is below.

2019 UPCOMING EVENTS

___________________________________________________

We encourage club members to join our Charity Ride Team and help us fundraise for these locally and nationally recognized charities. Please note that some of these rides will only require a registration fee and no additional fundraising. All monies contributed and raised will be associated with the North Florida Bicycle Club and the individual fundraiser.

Most fundraising is tax-deductible!

Mt. Acosta Classic - February 16 (an afternoon ride!)
Challenge yourself to ride as many laps of the Acosta Bridge as you can while supporting the Jared Bynum Scholarship Foundation supporting our local youth in Northeast Florida. On this short and completely closed bridge course, you can take your rest breaks at any point on the course. Last year, I even took a break at the top of the bridge to snap a photo and grab an extra cup of gatorade. This event is particularly well-suited to spectators, so bring your cheerleaders! Don’t forget to wear your NFBC jersey and sign in at the club tent to earn club miles! Registration fees start at $35 for the 1 lap bridge walk up to $80 for the 3 hour challenge (yes, you can still take as many breaks as you want between laps). No additional fundraising required.

Ride to the Ribbon Cutting - April 6th

Ride starts at 9:45 am, immediately following the ribbon cutting on the trail at Main Street in Hastings.

The route will be mostly rail trail that will take you to Palatka, a beautiful town situated on the St. Johns River. First there is a 10 mile out and back to Armstrong. Those wishing to go further will ride to Palatka and back for a grand total of 32 miles.

Registration fee is $10. No additional fundraising required.

Katie Ride for Life - April 13th
The Katie Ride for Life supports the Katie Caples foundation for organ donation and is a beautiful 18, 34, or 63-mile ride through Amelia Island.  A fun run and triathlon are also available. Don’t forget to wear your NFBC jersey and sign in at the club tent to earn club miles! Registration fee is $50 for cycling/tri, $30 for the fun run, and $15 for military (any event) with $100 additional tax-deductible fundraising required.

American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure - November 16
The Tour de Cure is an event where no matter what road you take, you will be joining thousands of people from around the country who have the same passion as you to fight diabetes and its burdens. All riders, runners and walkers will be treated to lunch and a fantastic celebration party for all to enjoy. Registration fees start at $10 with an additional $200 in tax-deductible fundraising required. If you're interested in being a Safety Marshal, please stay tuned for emails from your Charity Ride Team Captain!

BikeMS PGA Tour Cycle to the Shore
November 23-24
This was the main charity event of 2018 and could be your month of November century ride! We ride from Jacksonville to the Daytona Beach Hilton (a variety of routes if you don't want the big miles). We basically take over the Hilton and have a giant party on the patio with free beer, massages, great food, and fun. The next day, we all ride back to Jacksonville where the party continues at the finish line. Don’t forget to wear your NFBC jersey and sign in at the club tent in Daytona Beach to earn club miles! More details to come soon! Registration fees start at $35 with an additional $250 in tax-deductible fundraising required.
