Every year the NFBC does 30, 55 & 100-mile rides on New Year’s Day in January and for Independence Day in July. The 100-mile route takes you along some of the least travelled roads in the area and include a section in the southernmost part of Georgia. The shorter options take you out to Mcclenny or just up the rail trail and back.
Although New Year and Independence Day rides follow the same 30, 55 and 100-mile routes, they are very different.
Temperatures for the January are often in the 40s with strong northeast winds. The landscapes tend to be brown and grey. On the other hand, the temperatures in July are usually in the 90s and occasionally over 100. The winds are out of the southwest. The forest and fields are now bright green and lush.
We cannot predict the status of the coronavirus in July, so we have started planning the Independence Day assuming Florida will still be under Phase 2 reopening. The regulations allow for groups of up to 50 people. In the past, this event has drawn more than 50 participants, so we will be diving the ride into three groups in 2020.
All three groups will start at Imeson Road end of the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail (JBRT) on Friday June3, 2020. However, the departure times will be staggered.
Group 1 will be all 100-mile riders and the C & B level 55-mile riders. Group 1 will meet and sign in on the west side of the parking lot and will depart at 7:30AM. The 100-mile ride leader will be Jonathan Tomassetti

Group 2 will be the A+, A & B+ 55-mile riders. Group 2 will meet and sign in on the east side of the parking lot and will depart at 7:45. Somewhere down the road after the riders have spread out, we expect Group 2 will pass Group 1. The 55-mile ride Leader will be Chris Cayanas.

Group 3 will be any level cyclist riding the 30-mile JBRT. Group 3 will meet and sign in at the east side parking lot and depart at 8:30AM. This is actually the same as the weekly Westside Rail Trail Ride that is held every Friday. Ride Leader for the 30 miles is Clyde Riggs!
