Join the NFBC & MTCCNF Joint Memorial Day Ride & Picnic as we celebrate and remember those who gave their lives for our country from the American Revolution to the present day. This ride starts at the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail and travels on some familiar and some new roads to Thomas Creek where on May 17, 1777 a group of American Calvary Militia was ambushed by a mixed force of British Army, Loyalist Militia, and Indians at the Battle of Thomas Creek.
The C/S group will do a 36 mile route led by Clyde Riggs and have an 8:30AM START TIME. The B group will do a 48 mile route and the A group will do a 55 mile route and have a 9AM START TIME. Our destination is the Jacksonville National Cemetery and if all goes well we will all arrive at the same time at about 10:30AM. We will wait for the entire group to show up before holding a brief ceremony to pay our respects. After the ceremony we will ride over to nearby Thomas Creek Park.
At Thomas Creek we will stop for an early picnic lunch (So don't eat a big breakfast!). It will feature the All-American hot dog, snacks, Gatorade & cold water.
After eating we will head back to the Rail Trail.
You are encouraged to wear Red, White & Blue, military or other patriotic jerseys. (Note: We are only allowed to bring our bicycles into the circular parking lot of the cemetery grounds.Do no tride on the paths in the cemetery).
